Story Behind the Song
Written by Carl S. Dorsey After seeing the national pain that America was going to be facing I knew that what was going to help America heal was unity through diversity, its heritage, and its pride. Though conceived earlier, “We’re Americans” was completed in response to September 11.
Lyrics
WE’RE AMERICANS
We’ve shared our pains. We shed our tears.
And we’ve endured through the days and through the years.
And here we are. Yes, here we stand
Side by side arm in arm and hand in hand.
Because we’re Americans so proud and so strong.
Yes, we’re Americans. This is where we belong.
Oh we’re Americans and this is where we want to be
In the land of the free, home of the brave.
We’ve come from near. We’ve come from far.
Loving who we’ve been. Loving who we are.
We are all unique, yet in ways the same.
We’re unified by the glow of Liberty’s flame.
Because we’re Americans so proud and so strong.
Yes, we’re Americans. This is where we belong.
Yes we’re Americans and this is where we want to be
In the land of the free, home of the brave.
We’ve fought our wars and buried our dead.
With the red white and blue flying over our heads.
And united we stand, divided we fall.
Through every test we’ve prevailed, through one and all.
Because we’re Americans so proud and so strong.
Yes, we’re Americans. This is where we belong.
Yes we’re Americans and this is where we want to be
In the land of the free, home of the brave.
In the land of the free, home of the brave.
In the land of the free, home of the brave.
