Story Behind the Song
Written September 12, 2001 as a tribute to the men and women who serve in times of crisis in a local, state, and national capacity. It was especially dedicated to the firefighters and police officers of New York City and the Port Authority of New York who rushed in to save lives, in some cases losing their own.
Lyrics
HEROES
When our world comes crashing down you come running, you come running,
Before we could call your name you come running, you come running,
When disaster pulls the rugs from beneath us,
When enemies try to defeat us.
You’re always the first to meet us as you come running.
You are our bravest. You are our finest.
Through your service, and acts of kindness.
Firemen, doctors, and volunteers.
Policemen, tradesmen from far and near.
The military and others too.
You’re our heroes. And We Love You! You’re our heroes
And We Love You!
Face to face you stare down danger. How we need you! How we need you!
Many give their lives in battle. How we need you! How we need you!
Lay it on the line to save others.
You stick together just like you were brothers.
We could never ever find another. That’s how we need you!
You are our bravest. You are our finest.
Through your service, and acts of kindness.
Firemen, doctors, and volunteers.
Policemen, tradesmen from far and near.
The military and others too.
You’re our heroes. And We Love You! You’re our heroes
And We Love You!
