Story Behind the Song
Written September 17, 2001 in the wake of ill-feelings directed at Americans of Arab descent after the Sept. 11 tragedy. I felt the displays of unity in memorial tributes must be embodied in song to counter any mis-guided hate for Arabs in general.
Lyrics
ONE AMERICA
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,
Yearning to breathe free.”
Comes a call from New York harbor reaching sea to shining sea.
From the coasts of California to New England’s mighty shores
We’re united in our freedom, united like never before.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
All races, all sexes, all ages, all faiths and those with no faith at all.
We’re standing shoulder to shoulder.
We’re standing proud and we’re standing tall.
What we’ve in common is so much stronger
Than the differences between.
What’s inside is more important than anything seen.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America. .
One heart to love and trust one another.
One voice singing the praise of our nation.
One mind believing for bright tomorrows.
One America, that’s you and me.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
One heart, One voice, One mind, One America.
