Story Behind the Song
Back in High School, whenever a pretty girl walked away, (y'know, the kind of girl that was WAY out of your league), I would say "I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave". It always got a chuckle of agreement from the guys. One day (many years later) the idea to put it to a song just hit me, and the first verse and chorus was writen in about 20 minutes!
Lyrics
I Hate To See You Go (but I love to watch you leave)
(c) 1997 Words and music by Darren Hancock
When I met you back in high school you were such a pretty sight
And all the boys were filled with joy at the chance of just one night
When you asked me out beyond a doubt I was a lucky man that day
I didn't blink and all I could think as I watched you walk away
Chorus
I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave
The way you looked with the glance I took would knock any man to his knees
So don't turn around and catch me lookin' down
some place I shouldn't be
'Cause I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave
Two years went by and I thought I'd die, if you didn't take my hand
You walked down the aisle, gave me a smile and I became your only man
The church packed in with your old boyfriends, they were feelin' sad that day
Tears filled their eyes as we said goodbye and I'm sure I heard one say...
Repeat chorus once
Bridge:
You look so great when you walk that way
Even though it's in the wrong direction
It's all I can do not to follow you
And show you my affection
Lead break
Repeat chorus to end
