Lyrics
Santa Claus decided it was time for a change,
he got himself a hi-tech sleigh.
It had the digital bells and it was jet-propelled,
he put the reindeer out to pasture to stay.
And he bought a bunch of robots to replace the elves,
they started gettin' unemployment checks,
But there were things a happ'nin' that Christmas eve,
that made Santa Claus a nervous wreck.
Santa would be gettin' out a doll for Jill,
but it wouldn't have an finger or a head.
He'd need a little help to find the way to Jack's house,
but the reindeer would be home in bed.
chorus:
Used to be, poor Santa was a yellin' at the reindeer every day.
Used to be, all those elves would be complainin' 'bout conditions and the rate of pay.
Used to be, old Santa was a gripin' when he could'a been a laughin' aloud.
Back when Santa went hi-tech he was lonely up there in the clouds.
So Santa Claus decided there was work to be done,
he went back to the drawing board.
He got a bit of advice from the elves and reindeer,
and lots of bits from Mrs. Claus.
He put it all together with a few ideas
he got from watching old Star Treks,
And now everybody's got themselves a thing to do
doin' Christmas on the new sleigh's deck.
Well now they beam Santa down to each Christmas tree,
from that gigantic sled in the sky,
and the reindeer drive while the elves and Mrs
keep Santa Claus well supplied.
Used to be, poor Santa was a yellin' at the reindeer every day.
Used to be, those elves would be complainin' 'bout conditions and the rate of pay.
Used to be, old Santa was a gripin' when he could'a been a laughin' aloud.
But ever since Santa went Star Trek it's not lonely up there in the clouds,
it's just a party up there in the clouds,
it's really Christmas up there in the clouds.
