Story Behind the Song
The Dove was inspired by old christmas carols and is written in a waltz time signature. It is a spiritual ode to the human need for love, even if it is something that damages. The pain of the character of the song comes to a head toward the end where "love, love" sounds more of lament than hope, and it follows with "hurt me again", then at last, "hold me."
Lyrics
THE DOVE
Love, love, color of blood
Love, love on the vine
Love, love, angels and dust
And the whole hurt that you find
Everyone wants me to kill her
Everyone wants me to be
Everyone wants me to whisper
Everyone’s dying of need
Love, love, angels and light
And your hole, hide in your fear
Look, child, feel it among you
The moon disappears
Love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love
Ooooh, hurt me again
Ooooh, hurt me again
(Hold me)
