    Story Behind the Song
I won't tell you what this one's about until the album comes out. Basically there was some real emotional stuff happening with the person that this song was written for. And playing this song brought up a lot of bad stuff so that's why I say at the beggining that it's hard for me to sing it. I think I nearly passed out twice while doing this song.
This performance is once again dedicated to Ryan Silva (former DULCET drummer, current engineer on Psychology 101), Alison Harris, Shawna Anderson (my partners on "Insecurity"), and my Mom......for trying to help make the silence a little less awkward. Thank you all

    -R.J.

    Lyrics
    The Awkward Silence
Words and Music by R.J. Skywalker Burks

Stuck between us there's an awkward silence
That turns three feet into oceans away
A million thoughts get sucked into the vacuum
Along with words we'll later wish we could say
I don't want to burn another bridge
And you don't want to sacrifice your fears

    Chorus:
    Now I can't breathe
    But I don't think you're smothering me
With everything thing my words can do
I can't break this awkward silence with you

If I gave you hearts and flowers
Could this be our Valentine's Day?
Coz at the rate that things are going
I don't think I'll know you come February anyway
Are you afraid I'll break your heart?
Or better yet are you afraid I'll stay?

    Chorus:
    Now I can't breathe
    But I don't think you're smothering me
With everything thing my words can do
I can't break this awkward silence with you

    (solo section)

    Bridge:
The hardest part is knowing that your laughter has died
Another memory I'll re-play until I'm dead inside
The hardest part is knowing that your laughter has died
If I could hear you again

    Outro Chorus:
    You've watched me bleed
    Did it set you free?
With everything my heart can do
All it wants is to bleed some more for you
    Now I can't breathe
    But I don't think you're smothering me
With everything thing my words can do
I can't break this awkward silence with you
