Story Behind the Song
One of David's older tracks, this song had been written in reflection of a boy in high school who always seemed to be smiling, only to be found dead in his garage from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It is not a song of blame, only questions. There are many things in life that people hide, and sometimes friends might be going through more than we realize, and we may know them less than we think.
Lyrics
ARE YOU HAPPY?
Are you happy
That you’re not sad?
Wasn’t answered
With that gun you had
A simple question
A twisting fate
Was it for the ones you love
Or the ones you hate?
Now your alibis
Are much too hard to take
And when your memory dries
I hope it doesn’t break
But somehow something here
Just wore your life away
And I wonder what went wrong
And do you miss this place?
Are you lonely
Like you were then?
Dream a lie for you
And do the best I can
Are you crying
In this rain?
It took a lot for you to stop the pain
I miss you. I miss you. I miss you. God, we all do
