This is not the old Nyquil version that used to be here. I got better, and the song did too. Every word is still true, by the way. |

Story Behind the Song
Time for the ugly truth--a white man can't get a date in Philadelphia. Granted, I can't be sure ALL of my brothers of color are doing gangbusters (though the ones I know are doing way better than fine), but as for me and my pale brethren, you've got to bring a woman with you when you move here or send off for her after you've arrived. And don't even think about the natives. If her Gamma didn't take First Communion with your Gamma, fuggedaboudit. As for the Greenwich Village crack, I stopped my man Steven in the middle of a sunny afternoon in the West Village and said, "Look around. Does this look like anywhere in Philly?" The best he could come up with was, "Nope." There were gangs of women, four, five, six together. You don't see that in Philly. Truly a city suffering from a scaecity of free-range femininity.
Lyrics
The Loneliest Man on the Delaware
Ahem.
I'm the Loneliest Man on the Delaware,
I'm as blues as I can be.
Loneliest Man on the Delaware,
I'm as blues as I can be.
I just can't get used to
This solodarity.
My friends gon' sympathize?
My cries are met with scorn.
My friends don't sympathize.
All my cries are met with scorn.
Spoken: "He's just too picky, that's his problem."
You'd think they'd been married
Sicne the day that they were born.
Spoken: "Some of 'em might as well have been."
Solo
"We've found someone perfect for you!"
That's what they call and say.
"We've found someone perfect for you!"
That's what they call and say.
"Only one problem--
She lives about four states away."
I even tried a personals ad
T try to get me a blind date.
But she showed up early, met some other blind guy.
I was on time, but on time was too late.
Loneliest Man on the Delaware,
I'm as blue as I can be.
If things don't change in Philly,
I'm trying my luck in NYC.
So long, Philadelphia,
Hello Greenwich Villich.
