Steamboat Owen: Veteran musician known as "The Everglades Bluesman" Plays a variety of Blues styles, from solo Delta to fronting 5pc Chicago Band! Born in 1947 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio but raised on the Wellington Plantation in the northern section of the Florida Everglades since age 2, Steamboat chopped sugar cane and picked tomatoes with Mexican, Cuban and Black migrant farm workers as a young boy. He rarely heard anything but latino music until on his 12th birthday he got a radio and picked up a station that was playing Sonny Boy Williamson's The Sky is Crying! The sound of that Harmonica was something he just couldn't get over. Now after four decades he is considered by many as one of the last of the authentic/self-styled bluesmen! In his first year on the internet, blues fans downloaded his songs 146,228 times and his hit CD "Blues for The Everglades" has sold over 1,200 copies. He currently (4-4-02) has three #1 hits on the internet blues charts and his rendition of John Lee Hookers "Boom Boom Boom Boom" was the first blues song to be ranked #1 over all genres of music at a major (50,000 songs+) internet site/venue!
