Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired by a memory of a first time experience with smoking pot, and the feeling of getting confronted by an angry Mom who just sat and stared and said "what's wrong with you". As many know one of the affects of this drug is a bit of paranoia, and some times leaving the user in a state so intensely engrosed in sights and sounds that they feel unable to speak. It least that's the way it happened for me at 15.
That was the inspiration at least, but as many of you who write know, things continuously take on new meanings.
The song is partly cathartic and partly just a reassurance to concerned parent who as most had higher hopes than their kid being in a rock band.
The chorus of the song was written, as most good songs are for me at least, in the shower. The verse lyrics were co-written by myself and Mandy Marsh, the wonderful songwriter and singer of Deep Shag. They however went through numerous drafts before setteling on the final vesion that is on the CD.
The band came in to the studio after the song was finished , rehearsed it and cut it in two takes. We did some overdubs and mixed it the same day. The song was a last minute addition to the CD and as it happens has turned out to be the song that has received the most attention from the fans and radio.
There is something to be said about spontaneity.

Lyrics
I spent the day getting high
When you walked in it was such a surprise
Please don't get angry, please don't lose your mind
Like you do every time
Mouth won't move to tell a lie
The most you'll get from me now is no reply
I'm waiting on the words now stand-by
Oh I don't even know, all I really know is...
I am alright...
Second verse same as the first
10 years later, we've moved in reverse
If I'd known of these auditions I would have rehearsed
But the part you wrote is not for me
not for me
Can't you just let me breathe
Sit back and watch me on T.V.
Don't turn your head cause it's just leased
Out of site out of mind
I swear I'm gonna get this right cuz
I am alright...
Am I a hippy chic, punk rock, druggie,
drugged out Grace Slick
I'm just your little girl
You said wouldn't amount to sh*t
Just because it's not your way doesn't mean I'm wrong
You thought I'd lose you had your views
But look at me now
I am alright..
