"The Love Is Gone" | genre: Ska | |

This is the first original song we ever wrote, and it has undergone lots of changes since it's first inception, and it still might change (we're thinking about making the fast part swing/ska). Anyway, the song progresses from a dark reggae, to a slightly faster ska, and back to the reggae for the trombone/vocal duet that closes the song. If only one of us could toast! |

Story Behind the Song
Yeah, this is the first Dr. Zaius song ever. Lee and John decided they wanted to show what they wanted the band to eventually be by mixing as many styles as possible. Here we dabble in reggae and punk-driven ska. It's pretty much been our staple, and had to go on the demo. It has changed a lot however. The most recent one was when Zena started to scat along to John's trombone solo at the end. We liked it so much, we made it a full, answering duet. I'm sure this song will continue to evolve as long as we're together. As for the lyrics, which John wrote, they're pretty self explanatory. The song is about the lack of love people in today's world feel for themselves and others. It presents a series of questions for the listener to think about.
Lyrics
What do you do when everyone hates themselves?
They already didn't like each other
Popping the pills to make it all go away
Ignoring the plight of their brother
Chorus: The love is gone, yet we still go on, the love is gone, where did we go wrong?
Have you ever hated a man because fo his race?
And laughed as he walked the line
Well I'm telling you man this is a 2-Tone band
You ain't gonna make it anyway, anyhow
(guitar, trumpet solos)
Chorus
Have you ever known a deep depression?
That brought you trembling down on your knees?
The same thing comes from oppression
But more than just Prozac is the key
