Story Behind the Song
Winds of Mars is a unique piece of American... and Martian... history. Created from data returned to Earth in July 1997 by Mars Pathfinder and its weather station, Winds of Mars is the first recording featuring extraterrestrial sounds originating from the surface of another planet and mixed with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Winds of Mars is an environmental/musical presentation in four acts or scenes. Following each scene, you will hear the winds fade to silence. The winds vary on each track, from gentle breezes to mercurial gusts to a swift, raging dust devil; and, although some of the winds are subtle, listen carefully and you will hear that each is distinct.
As the winds of Mars meander, dance, spin, rustle and whip around some of Bach's most memorable compositions, let the sounds transport you into the realm of imagination and out to this somehow familiar yet absolutely alien world of rusty red deserts, gigantic mountains and vast canyons, a world of salmon skies and cerulean sunsets.

(no lyrics, unless you credit the sound of Martian winds.)
