Story Behind the Song
I used to work at a 24-hr. care nursery for
young children who were drug-exposed and/or
HIV-positive. One of the kids died from AIDS-
related illness at the age of 2 1/2. Another
was diagnosed with a form of autism. This song is for them.
Lyrics
Jesus was born today
Thats what the Christians say
Child in a manger crib
Spit running down his bib
I held him in my arms
He was a sad and quiet kid
He liked to climb, and when he fell wed cry together
Mary was born a saint
Thats what the Catholics say
Girl on a donkeys back
Virginity intact
Slouching off to Bethlehem
She needs a fix
She needs her Frankincense tonight
Patron saint of miracles
Ive let your candle burn down
For in this world were always lost
And only sometimes found, sometimes found
Sometimes found
Tiny lights on the tree
I listlessly watch TV
Youve fallen off to sleep
You make me out to be so strong, so strong
But Im not strong, I stand alone
I dont have the answers, I dont speak your language
Its so hard to carry on
You smile at the ceiling, but never at me
Jesus was born today
Never saw him again
Black boy with Buckwheat braids
This time was all we had
One moment in memory
One small hand
Flutters in the air
He spins around with a sock in his teeth
Trees above like kaleidoscopes
Gold like the sun in his eyes on the day that I watched on
Im not that strong
I dont have the answers, I dont understand it
And even less since hes been gone
Its too late to take him, hes already free
Patron saint of miracles
Ive let your candle burn down
For in this world were always lost
And only sometimes found, sometimes found
Sometimes found
Mary was made a saint
Left weeping at the grave
She had a son to raise
He had a world to save
She had to let go, and where he went shell never know
Patron saint of miracles
Ive let your candle burn down
For in this world were always lost
And only sometimes found, sometimes found
Sometimes found
