    Story Behind the Song
This song was the first "in the can" during mixdown of "SLiP" when 9/ll happened. Originally titled "Skyscrapers" (no kidding), Mary reworked some of the lyrics and changed the title, though it was always only a metaphor for a relationship. One of the radio favorites.

    Lyrics
You don't claim to know the answer
You don't aim to know the truth
    You're building boxes of stone
    With weeds overgrown

    You can't build beyond capacity
And expect to find a rhapsody
    No one can love you
    When you're all alone

    Building your city around you
Leaves just walls to surround you
    Casting shadows
Leaves you standing in the dark

    You know that skyscrapers
    Don't really scrape the sky
    They just interrupt
    The clouds passing by
    You can't hide yourself
    Behind a silly lie

    When a strong wind comes
    And blows you away
Maybe I could be the one
    To take you in
    If it all goes away
    I could see it someday
    We might find ourselves
    A place to begin

    If you think this illusion
    Is the final conclusion
You're missing pieces of a life
    You haven't seen
Let's lay this puzzle on the table
Turn the pieces right side up
And take another look at this reality

    Maybe you're not alone

    2002 Mary Gaines
