A catchy, light, pop rock tune that dates back to 1989. My producer/friend at the time David Romine said it sounded like something that John Lennon might write, but to this day I don't see it. In fact, I can't seem to compare it to anybody. So if anyone out there has any thoughts on who this song sounds like I would love to hear them. As for the content of the song, I am sure that EVERYBODY has an "Epitome of Strange" in their life at sometime.

    Story Behind the Song
Rick Keinat, my high school friend and musical partner at the time and I wrote the lyrics to this song while sitting at a bar called "Pufferbellys" in Norcross, Ga. one evening in 1989. The inspiration was given to us by a close friend of ours that is everything that the song says. We recorded it at Songbird Studio in Atlanta, Ga. but never finished it and it still remains unmixed to this day. The version you are listening to (hopefully now) is the demo that was recorded before we replaced most of the instruments with live musicians.
There is a happy ending to this song though. Vertical Smile brought this song out of retirement and recorded it on our live CD which was released in the summer of 2002. I will be placing that version up on the site soon so stay tuned.

    Lyrics
    The Epitome of Strange

    He's the man about town.
    He's somewhat insane.
    He's always wearing a frown.
It seems he's always in pain.
    He's got a twisted smile.
    He's got a twisted brain
    He's a slight bit deranged.
    He's the epitome of strange

    He's not like you.
    He's not like me
He's got big dreams that he'll never see.
    He's got a twisted smile.
    He's got a twisted brain.
    And he'll never change
    He's the epitome of strange.

    CHORUS
    He'll take you away.
He'll never hear what you say.
Don't let him get you alone.
    Somebody take him away.
He'll look you in the eye and never say good-bye.
When everything goes wrong he's got an alibi.
    SOLO
    CHORUS

He's got the perfect plan of how it should be.
He wants it all and he wants it for free.
    He talks a big game.
    It's always the same.
No time to rearrange the epitome of strange.

    He's got a twisted brain.
    No time to rearrange.
    He's the epitome of strange.
    He's the epitome of strange.
