    Story Behind the Song
I was promoting some songs on a song writers news group that I had recently converted from Real Player to .mp3.
Somebody had the audacity to say that they did not want to bother with songs that I had written ten years ago.
I wrote this song while driving back from Florida to Nashville. I pulled over at one of the service areas on the Florida Turnpike and jotted it down in my legal pad.
My son and I layed down the midi drums and bass. I layed down the lyrics after returning home from another trip to Florida and Knoxville.
This is my first rap song and I am definetly putting this in the under construction category if anybody would like to help me with it i would appreciate it

    Lyrics
    Showdown
    ©2002
words and music by: John McCullough

    Verse 1
So you want to be a critic and a cynic and a sayer
Speaking your mind, like you're the shiznit, player
Fast talking, trash talking, disenchanted youth
Flapping your gums, but you've got nothing on the truth

    Chorus
Showdown or shut up, that's all I got to say
Put your money where your mouth is, are you ready to play
It's high noon and my tune is all up in your face
It's time to be a hero or a zero in disgrace

    Verse 2
I put my faith in the United States
I put my trust in the collection plate
I ain't got much, but what I got's mine, baby
Cause I ain't Kid Rock and I ain't no Slim Shady

    Chorus
Showdown or shut up, that's all I got to say
Put your money where your mouth is, are you ready to play
It's high noon and my tune is all up in your face
It's time to be a hero or a zero in disgrace

    Verse 3
You started showing your ass, and acting a fool
Talking that trash and dissing old school
If you want to get a word in, that's all you're going to get
But wait your turn, cause I ain't done yet

    Chorus
Showdown or shut up, that's all I got to say
Put your money where your mouth is, are you ready to play
It's high noon and my tune is all up in your face
It's time to be a hero or a zero in disgrace

    Chorus
Showdown or shut up, that's all I got to say
Put your money where your mouth is, are you ready to play
It's high noon and my tune is all up in your face
It's time to be a hero or a zero in disgrace
