The "Blues Man" is God, He's calling to us in the verses. The singer is "us" and we sing the Chorus in response, accepting His invitation. | MP3.com CD: God Sings the Blues - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
This is one of those songs that started out from the point of view of God singing to us. I later realized that the singer had to be singing the chorus as a response to God's inviting verses. God is very assertive here. He is telling us who He is, in this blues metaphor, and what He wants - Our Souls - nothing less. To be with Him (in a Blues sense) is to be in touch with our emotions. Our deepest emotions are those that connect us directly to the Almighty.
Again, this is a mythological approach to a time honored message, and the approach that I follow most often.
Lyrics
I am the Blues Man, honey
And I am here for your Soul
I am the Blues Man, baby
And I am here for your Soul
Give me all your sweet lovin
And I will turn it into Gold
I am your Blues Man, honey
Can you hear Me this one time
I am your Blues Man, baby
I want you to hear Me this one time
Well, I'm on my way to sorrow
If you don't hear Me in time
(chorus)
You see, the Blues calls to me
Cause it wants me to see
That Love, is where I want to stay
The Blues says: "I do"
"I love you really true"
The Blues says:
"I want you to be free"
Yeah, that's the Blues now
It's what I want for me
SOLO
(Chorus)
Oh the Blues calls to me
It just wants me to see
That I'm alive, and throwing away my pain
The Blues says: "I do"
"I love you really true"
The Blues says: "I want you to be free"
Yeah, that's the Blues now
It's what I want for me
I am your Blues Man, honey
And you know I ain't lying
I am your Blues Man, baby
I want to thank you for trying
We're on fire now, baby
There ain't no more denying
We're on fire now, baby
There ain't no more denying
