Story Behind the Song
Jackson wrote this in the early '70s, and was part of the repertoire of his first Rock band, The Pine Street Band. It was influenced by John Lee Hooker's boogie-rhythm and Jackson's love for background harmony singing. Jackson had a cold when he recorded this tape demo, but sang it in one take, as it was only intended to be a demo for a recording project that was never finished. The happy, rollicking spirit of the song is still evident, nevertheless.
Lyrics
Beautiful woman, now-now,
Are you as real as you seem?
I see you here, it's too good to be true,
It's just like you come out of my dreams,
Until I met you, I would have bet you,
That life had nothing special in store for me
Now, you know the way I feel about you,
Won't settle for nobody else,
And I don't care what others may say,
Want to have you for myself,
Let me put my arms around you,
I'm so glad I found you,
I want to be your man,
I want to be yours alone
(Chorus)
(You are the love o' my life)
(You make it feel so right)
(You are my guiding light)
(Now we're together, day and night)
Ooh, you must be an enchantress,
You put your spell on me,
And oh-oh-oh, this thing called love
Made my life what I want it to be,
And you know, Sweet Honey, ain't life funny,
A man as happy as me is something rare
(Chorus)
(Interlude)
(Chorus)
