Story Behind the Song
I love the title of this set. Marie Reilly wrote "Camels in Kansas" after she and Martin did a gig in Kansas. They were driving through the countryside, and were sure they saw camels, but couldn't understand why. It turned out that the camels were imported to Kansas to eat a certain type of weed that was killing the native grass. These camels ate exclusively in Africa, so it seemed like a logical solution. Much to everyone's dismay (including the farmer that spent thousands of $$$$ to fly them to Kansas, the camels much prefered the grass over the weeds, so the entire plan backfired.
