Story Behind the Song
My friend Marga is indeed impish (maybe 5 feet tall max), a delightful personality with a Chaplinesque sense of humour. Here it's implied that she's my lover, but she's married and living west of Toronto, and we're still the best of friends. This song, by the way, won a certificate of achievement from the international Unisong competition…
Lyrics
TO MY WHIMSICAL LOVE Words & Music © Brian Campbell 2002
Oh you're such a whimsy, my impish little love
Your laughter is the light glancing off a waterfall
Or the dew glinting on the morning grass
A joy so fresh
I wonder if it can ever last
But I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I have you at all
You're rain tapping on a window pane
Flowers of light in a curved earthen jar
Then you shimmer and you're gone, just like the rainbows
I've been chasing my whole life long --
You're so joyful, you laugh so much
Sometimes I wonder if you can be serious at all --
If like so many, your joy's but a mask
Hiding the darkest secrets of all
But I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I have you at all
Oh you're such a crazy, such a whimsical little love
Your laughter is the light glancing off a waterfall
Or the dew on the morning grass
A joy so fresh
I wonder if it'll ever last
But I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I suppose I should be glad
I have you at all
