Story Behind the Song
I wrote this one night while playing the Benny Hill theme on my guitar. Of the great comics, Benny Hill really had a huge influence on me growing up (I wasn't allowed to watch it as a kid, and would have to hide in the basement to see him every night at 10 on a station from Buffalo. I would have to put my ear up to the speaker, to hide it from my parents, while playing with the TV's rabbit ears to try and pull in the reception. It was something so forbidden, exotic, dirty, crude, funny, honest, racist and sexist... it was everything you try and keep from seeing until they had to. I needed to watch Benny Hill; I needed social contrast, comparison, to feel whole... Benny filled-in that whole of mine, indeed....
Lyrics
When I was a little boy,
I watched me some Benny Hill.
