Story Behind the Song
This is the strangest song I have ever attempted. The title... 'Broken Bridge' is the english translation of the name of my home town, which is in Latin - Pontefract. This is the first song I have written that was designed and inspired by the name of my home town, rather than coming naturally from the normal 'guitar' route. The music was written in reflection to the town, and the lyrics are my representation of my experiences there. Make up your own mind whether I like the place or not... :) This song was a mammoth. In total it took three months to write and arrange and an extra month to mix and tweak. It was recorded on my OLD computer... a compaq presario 3450, using 48RAM and 2 gigs of hard drive. The soundcard is a standard imitation of an un-fancy soundblaster. So go figure... (so now you know why it took so long:)
Lyrics
Broken Bridge
Verse 1:
Walking in and out of town,
I see another face I think I know,
Talk a while until we're down,
Turn around I think I better go.
Verse 2:
Now you think you've got it all,
But your 'petit' crimes won’t get you very far.
A no-hope job at the Golden Ball,
Just to fix up your new car.
Chorus:
I'm looking back across this broken bridge to where I've come from,
And all I see is that there is a place that I have known,
I feel like I've been kept inside these walls, I know it’s too long,
And when I look across this bridge, I know that this is my home.
Verse 3:
I can make it through the castle walls,
They stretch beyond how far the eye can see.
I lost my way, but as long as duty calls,
I'll make the grade and know that I am free.
Outro:
This is my home.
