	Story Behind the Song I was in the process of ending a relationship. It was around Easter, 1997. I sat down and hammered out the melody and interludes in one sitting. When I came to write the lyrics I repeatedly thought of the upcoming holiday and The Minnesota Roundary Waters area that I used to live near when I was a kid. There was a marriage of these two themes and the lyrics were born out of that. It was recorded in five different takes for instrumentation and five additional vocal takes. Lyrics As you handed me the off'ring I untied the crimson braid So the silver hand-made paper On the April snowfall laid And we heard the churchbells For the sunrise service call But this we were not attending We weren't worshipping at all Bound to earth these hollow hearts Nothing rises from the grave On this Easter torn apart Nothing cherished No one saved Delicate the monarch on the pines Venus rose above the cobalt lake So these August nights conspire In this cruelest month of summer On these boundary waters blue I will only wait for you
