A love song Michael penned for his wife, Roxanne, this song is more upbeat & funkier than will be typical of The Death Of Cool. Nice, laid back, jazzy groove in the verse, w/ rockin' chorus. |
Label: Somebody Please Sign Me Records
Credits: Michael Raphael, Jim Scott, Darin Robinson, Joseph Lonon, Michael Galante. |
Story Behind the Song
Michael Raphael wrote the lyrics, including the melody, and the bass line for the verse around 1998. However, because it was so much funkier and happier than his normal style, he was unable to come up with anything else for it. In late 2002, Michael asked bassist, Jim Scott to colaborate w/ him on the song. He wanted the rest of the song to be a little moodier, to help counterbalance the funk of the verse. In just a few hours Jim had completed the stucture of the song by building the rest of the bass lines. After a few refinements, Darrin Robinson, of Foursidecircle (see links page) was asked to write the guitar parts for the song. Again in just a couple of sessions he had it down. Foursidecircle's drummer also offered his services and came through with excellent percussion work. Joseph Lonon (Bassist for FSC) came through at the last minute with that great trumpet part, which was mostly improvised despite not having picked up a trumpet for a few years! The music was recorded on Darin's 16-track hard disk digital recorder in FSC's rehearsal studio. A few days later, Tommy Galloway recorded Michael's vocals, and mixed and mastered it, at Grasshopper Studios. Thanks to all of these friends helping me out on short notice, I was able to have this played over the sound system at the Blue Fish restaurant, where Roxy & I were celebrating our 5th anniversary. She loved it!
