    Story Behind the Song
I started Christmas Eve when I was just a few years beyond boyhood and finished it almost 3 decades later after I had been a parent for a while. I have always drawn a great feeling of joy from the Santa myth. My Dad always used to put flour on the fireplace hearth and then stamp his old boots into it to fool us into thinking they were Santa's prints. Plus, as children, we left the traditional milk and cookies to keep Santa well fed on his long night of work. I was probably 21 years old when I wrote the first 2 verses. The song then collected dust for years but then my friend, Dan Black, suggested that I write more lyrics and finish the song. I wrote the last 2 verses and with Dan's help the song was completed.

    Lyrics
    Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and everyone's in tonight
Here I sit by the fireside
In these warm surroundings, with a heart full of joy
I wait for Christmas like a boy

Cause Old St.Nick, he'll be around after dark
Leaving his footprints on the fireplace hearth
He'll drink his milk and those cookies sure were good
I'd like to see him, yes, I would

The hour's late and everyone's asleep
Time to turn out the lights on the Christmas tree
A peek out the window, looking for snow
I'd sure like to see him, don't you know

It's Christmas Eve and everyone's in tonight
Here I sit by the fireside
In these warm surroundings, with a heart full of joy
I wait for Christmas like a boy
I wait for Christmas like a boy
