Story Behind the Song
This song was written and recorded in just under two days with the exception of the trumpet solos, which were added days later by the talented Stephen Russell. The morning of the first recordings of this song, I awoke with the melody in my head and built the song from there.
Lyrics
Well, I’m on the road to love, but I can’t get there,
‘cause I’m thinking of a melody.
Well, I’m on the road to love, but I can’t get there,
‘cause I’m frightened of transparency.
Well, I’m on the road to love, but I can’t get there,
When without anything I am, I am me.
I am god.
I am a stained-glass marvel.
I am god,
With my head up in the clouds,
With my heir up in the clouds.
I am god.
Well, I’m on the road to love, but I can’t get there.
Well, I’m on the road to love, and I won’t change.
If you were me, if I was you, I would arrest me,
For subscribing to a different ball and chain.
