Story Behind the Song
When I wrote this song, it just seemed to come to me. Chicken little sees the sky falling, and the next thing you know, you're talking to priests about God and asking for change, all the while making your way down the road of life.
Lyrics
I’M ON MY WAY
Chicken Little, can you see the sky falling down
To the egg shells that you’re walking on?
The ice is thin, but you take heavy strides, and you say,
“I’m on my way.”
Well, I’m on my way…
Yes, I’m on my way…
I am on my way,
And I’m leavin’ here… today.
Hey there, father, could you
Talk to God for me?
Tell Him I’m not here to stay.
It may be soon, it may be years from now, but,
Tell Him I am on my way.
Well, I’m on my way…
Yes, I’m on my way…
I am on my way,
And I’m leavin’ here…
Say there, brother, could you spare a dime?
I don’t know where I’m goin’,
But I’m makin’ damn good time.
I’ve squandered my existence as I’ve traveled down the road.
I want to go the distance, but it’s just so far to go…
Well, I’m on my way…
Yes, I’m on my way…
I am on my way,
And I’m leavin’ here… today.
Leavin’ here…
Leavin’ here…
Today.
