--Sensual visions, telling events... --"You Guys ROOOOOOCK!!!! 8 minutes long and I loved every second of it! Superb performances by all, and a very very cool mix and production! So many different elements and influences, mixed and blended together for a superb piece of ear candy!" Steev --"The Vocals are spectacular! You Guys always put out Quality Music! The Spoken Part reminds me of Jim Morrison Poetry!!! Cool!!! Very Interesting Outro!!! An Evocative Listen!!!" Razman / Chicago, IL --"The freeflow spoken section certainly adds an unsettling touch to the tune. Very disturbing overall. Great lyrical imagery...where'd that Shaman come from???" Axis 1

    Story Behind the Song
The Dark Ryders find inspiration in our own experiences, rather than from hype or trends.
Our songs tend to be interconnected and form a musical landscape. This one is no exception, though it's different in a number of ways. It's something of a theatrical piece in two parts, featuring driving guitars in the beginning and followed by an atmospheric spoken word section, "A Spectre Haunts Texas". A Native American rain stick is used, along with other ambient effects and a rainstorm from the day of the session.

    Lyrics
    Stone Fields

    From a far distant land
    I recall your stranger's hand
Where the wild waves thrash the shore
I will live to see no more

    Flying down the highway
    Flying down the highway
These things that I have known
These dreams that I have known
These fields will turn to stone

    Yeah
    Girl I'm falling
    Where the river runs
    Looking always toward the mountain
But I never, no I never see the sun

    Flying down the highway
Flying down the highway, away, away
These things that I have known
These dreams I had are gone
These fields will turn to stone

    I remember deep blue friends
    Open doorways, tragic ends
    I remember fragile lies
    Broken shorelines, haunted eyes

    Flying down the highway
Flying down the highway, away, away
These things that I have known
These dreams that I have known
These fields will turn to stone

    A Spectre Haunts Texas

    ...blood and steel
    motorcycle accidents
    ice pick
    thru the skull
    warm blonde on the lake

    in the basement, the comrades'
    ritual
    claiming the deep world
    the roaring unknown
    home of prophecy
    magic causes
    futures w/out absurd ritual
    where there rattles only
    artifice
    crystal goblets
    rattlesnake venom
    opium candles
    of dull hunger

    w/out the psychiatrist's couch
    the philosopher's stone
    the Dream American
    the license
    of good hypocritical
    indulgences

(lock of hair of St. Vitus)

    w/out glowing
    tribute or honor
    claiming the deep world
    the deep cave of oracle
    caverns roaring w/
    connections to heavens
    galaxies
    swirling universes
    sensual visions
    telling events
    loose, mocking beauty's
    laughter, allowing
    the continuum
    of the presence
    of the infinite

    Fast cars
    resurrections of burning
    emotions
    scattered products
    off advertisements
    late
    from the twentieth century

    neon decorations, drums
    ...drums
    ...drums

    Things like this never happen
    ...things like this never happen
    ...things like this never happen

    awakening vision, viscera,
the eye of the soul and
    pumping heart

    of now
    and forever--

    a most seductive siren
    calling
    like that which brings

    rain...
