    Story Behind the Song
A mystical night of exploration spent with a very large and libidinous Ojibwa girl.

    Lyrics
We were walking down this street.
    In the cold, cold night.

    There was snow everywhere.
Silent snow - dropped by a bored gray sky.
We walked through a cavern of drifts
Where the snowplows had stacked the snow
    Three men high
    Lit by the grinning moon
    We searched the dark snowscape
For the light that had escaped
    For the candles
    For the cold candles
    That had escaped
    Frenzied
    Blizzard

    (The snowman cometh)
A snowy owl for our guide
We forged ahead into the Ojibwa night.

(Pay no attention to the writings in the snow!
    We are of the chosen,
    We are the ones!)

    The scent of cold wax
    Faint nostril wind
    Lightness was near
The cold candles couldn't be far
    (The snowman cometh)

    Are you afraid?
    (Are you afraid?)

    The cold candles

    Witnesses to the events
    Could not have described
Only the spirits who flew with the owl
Only the naked spirits who danced in delight
    Her wigwam was warm
Fire built high to stave off the cold
    Of an Ojibwa winter night
    We danced together
    We danced alone
Sometimes there were three of her
We lost count of the times
    And the place
And all that had seemed real before this night
    We were of another time
    We were the ones
The ones who could soar like mighty eagles
The ones who could see it all
    The message was so clear

The cold candle warmed my soul that night
