Story Behind the Song
I was up in a hospital room in Boise, Idaho Nov 1997. A friend of mine was
visiting his wife as she was having a baby. As I sat there listening to the
monitor pumping out the fetal heartbeat, my mind thought of Jesus' heart
and that with every beat of His heart on the cross, He pumped out drops
of blood as a covering for our sins. The song came about a week later. It
took about 1 hours to write. Recording was done on a Tascam 8 track (424,
if I remember correctly). I played and sung all the parts. Dubbed in the guitar
solo and had fun with it. Hope you like it. Maybe someday I'll have an album.
Lyrics
About 2000 years ago, a baby born on earth,
Came to show all people that in God's eyes we have worth.
He grew into a mighty man, even walked upon the sea,
While headed on His journey to a place called Calvary. (Chorus 1)
Chorus 1:
With every heartbeat, His blood poured down.
With every heartbeat, it hit the ground.
With every heartbeat, He showed His grace.
With every heartbeat, When He took our place.
Verse 2:
He led His 12 disciples on a trek throughout the land;
Taught 'em how to witness and for God to take a stand,
But they slept while He was prayin' down in Gethsemane,
While headed on His journey to a place called Calvary. (Chorus 1)
Verse 3:
Arrested for no reason, His accusers gave Him grief.
Whipped, beaten, spat on and treated like a thief.
On His head a crown of thorns, then nailed upon a tree,
At the end of His journey, at a place called Calvary. (Chorus 1)
Verse 4:
His body hung up on that cross, your life to save
Placed in a borrowed tomb, He rose up from the grave
You were why He did it all, you were His destiny
You're why He made His journey to that place called Calvary
Chorus 2:
With every heartbeat, His...blood still pours down.
With every heartbeat, it...still hits the ground.
With every heartbeat, He...still shows His grace.
With every heartbeat, He...still takes our place.
