Story Behind the Song
Each of us has many attributes, many past experiences, many opinion-shaping insights that make us unique individuals. When a diamond, with its many facets, reflects the waves of light that are cast upon it, it sparkles. Each of us is a diamond, with our many facets, and when we respond to and reflect the waves of life that are cast upon us, WE sparkle.
If only one facet of a diamond is illuminated, all that can be seen is a flat surface, giving the impression that the whole object reflects light in exactly the same way. That one facet gives no clue to the depth, the sparkle, the VALUE of that particular diamond.
When we allow one facet, one attribute, one label to define us, we keep the light from revealing OUR depth, our sparkle, our value.
As individual, multi-faceted diamonds, we are the treasure of the nation.
Together, as Americans, we ARE the nation.
Forever let us sparkle.
