"5. Open Sky - Meghan's Reel - Canal Jig" | genre: Celtic | |

Did you like "Blue Butterfly" or even hear it? Heidi's fiddle opening, gave me the same exciting shivers as that wonderful tune, some of the purest fiddle music I have heard from her, and then when Inga-Lisa's harp floats in .. aaaaahhhhhhh
Next, Meghan's Reel sounds more like a
feet kicking morris dance. It will certainly get you dancing and clapping with its infectious beat that gets faster and faster
Finally, Stef's Canal Jig rolls along with Inga-Lisa plucking that harp with all give from it.
Open Sky would make a gorgeous bagpipe tune.
How about it The Rogues :-)

Story Behind the Song
"Open Sky" was the first composition of this set and if felt fine on its own. However I asked Heidi to try and make a reel to fit and she started working on a dance tune, using the theme from "Open Sky".
It started off like a slowish Morrice tune and then came into speed but it wasn't until we played some "offs" on the banjo that it got the real groove.
We play it with increasing speed and it eventually got the name "Meghan's Reel" because Heidi could see Meghan from "Meghan & Robin" dancing to it.
Then we felt it needed a nice Jig to lay back a bit and we changed the key of "Canal Jig" which I had previously written, walking Tim (our dog) along a narrow canal where we live. It fitted nicely.
