    Story Behind the Song
My father owns a contracting company in Augusta, GA (Stennis Construction). Each summer I work for him. During the summer of 1998, I was working in Newberry, SC on some job. The words Drinkin Pain popped in my head so I scrambled for something to write on. I found an old bank receipt and a contractor's pencil and began to write. Before I went to record Drinkin' Pain, my mom wrote the last verse and chorus to give the song much needed closure. My mom has always written beautiful poetry and this skill in turn enabled her to put some poetry in my music.

    Lyrics
I've been drinkin' and smokin' a little too much
and there's other women 'sides my wife that I've touched
I've got a job, three kids but no pride
too much pain flowin deep inside

There ain't no tellin' how much liquor I drink
I spend my mornings by the bedroom sink
I swear to myself I'll never do it again
I damn that bottle but it's my bestfriend

Chorus: Is this drink worth all the pain
I've got no one else to blame
Is this drink worth all the pain
I've got no one else to blame
No one knows 'bout that girl in my past
her little boy growin up way too fast
I'd do anything for that boy can't you see
but he won't have nothin' to do with me

    Chorus:(Same)

Bridge: My mom and dad they tried to raise me right
and until now i thought I'd turned out all right
And until now I could not see
that this drinkin ain't for me

Cause drinkin' and smokin' won't get you nowhere
And cheatin' on your wife, well that just ain't fair
Put down that bottle and listen to me
That ol'time religion says redemption is free

Chorus: So Is this drink worth all that pain
I've got no one else to blame
Took this pain for me to see
Prayin' Lord take hold of me
