Story Behind the Song
Life is what motivated this song. I have this fascination with irony, and I wish that the world that we live in was a perfect world.........BUT, what we'd miss with all this perfection is what I mention in this song. The tragedy of Nine Eleven focused the lyrics of this song already in progress. The day Nine Eleven "happened" the song in it's original version died.....went up in smoke. So, after many more takes and rewrites because I was trying to speak more accurately and less generally about ironies in this less than perfect world.....Nine Eleven was reborn in wake of the smoldering fires of the crumbled Twin Towers.
Lyrics
In a perfect world, bad things never happen
The house of mourning is never filled with those who weep. Tragedy never crushes the heart so that it cannot speak, but only comfort seeks.
Vicious terror never storms from the sky bearing ruin and wreckage leaving cruel answers as to why. In a perfect world I never have to try. Faith, hope and love are never needed day by day. Peace is never ruptured by horror and dismay 'Cause next time's a sure thing tomorrow is guaranteed In a perfect world life just happens merrily.
In a perfect world I'd never be glad to see you.'Cause I'd never be lonely and need a kiss, a kind word or a tender caress. I would'nt need you, you would'nt need me In a perfect world, what worth is friends and family?
Though now you may weep Time heals young pain, so the wise man says. Faith, hope and love will assuage your heart
Though now it's cut with sorrow deep, the ground you water with your tears will bear forth fruit in the coming years.
So draw closer to the fire, let it warm your back, and the shadows of the night will yield to the light.
