Story Behind the Song
"Elvis And The Moon" underlines the danger of being a dreamer at the expense of anything genuine in your life, only to realise it all too late and repent for a small eternity. The song is a wistful ballad to commemorate the death of something quite beautiful which has been lost forever, when the "heroine" of this story has no-one to blame but herself......(not that I'm bitter or anything.....heehee!)
Lyrics
Elvis And The Moon
I am lacerated by a certain sadness when you're happy now
In ways you couldn't know
And I'm lobotomised to think of you alight for someone else
Don't tell me that its so
And I think of times when you were damaged absent-mindedly
By some neurotic psychopath who looked a lot like me
And Im afflicted by a fountain full of effervescent feelings with no use
Because I've left it far too long, from this day on, believe me
Chorus
No more Elvis and the moon
I will only write for you
The songs you're playing in your room
Can I reach you through them?
In my paroxetine dreams
I feel too late what you inspired in me
And I'm sorry
Do you still smile in spite of me?
I used to pride myself on being far too gone to even care
Now every heartbeat rings in sympathy
They drum the soundtrack to a dream where I'm restored to you once more
This time with fireworks and empathy
And now through every cause and consequence it's only you I love
With sweet and savage tenderness that you know nothing of
So take the truth and run before the proud and damaged daytime me saves face
As if you've long since been erased, it's not the case, believe me
Chorus
No more Elvis and the moon
I will only write for you
The radio plays in your room
Can I reach you through them?
I made you pay for where I'd been
And it's no wonder you grew tired of me
And I'm sorry
Do you still smile in spite of me?
And now I'd hardly care of how impractical we were
Now you're irretrievable, exclusively for her
Forever sticking in my throat the words I never ever had the balls to say
A thousand track marks bleed inside, in times when pride deceived me
Chorus
No more Elvis and the moon
I will only write for you
The songs you're playing in your room
Can I reach you through them?
In my paroxetine dreams
I feel too late what you inspired in me
And I'm sorry
Do you still smile in spite of me?
