    Story Behind the Song
The first incarnation of LIGHTNING WALTZ played it's last show in Dallas in 2001 due to logistics (drummer in San Antonio, guitarist in Tyler & me in Dallas).
I wrote the beginnings of Swan Song that night after the show, knowing it had been our last effort together - our 'swan song'.

    Lyrics
I guess this is the swan song. I think maybe the final breath - the last pull from a nearly empty bottle, the sugar sweet taste of success is still on my tongue. How did we let it get so wrong?

Once we breathed the clean pure breath of life, stumbled through the purest quiet nights broke through into the brightest days to sing another song.

We walked together all along - I guess it must have counted as something once, but that's the breaks and then you move on. Drain the glass tonight and tomorrow just pay for another one - how did we let it get so wrong?

I guess this is the swan song, fairly sure it's the final breath. Along the way we just lost interest but the taste of success is still on my tongue - how did we let it get so wrong?

Devining water but finding none - pulled off course by the guidance of the sun. I felt the damp air of the oasis but arrived to find only a mirage. I can feel the cool in the air - if you just keep walking, it's there...

At one time there was a reason now just four walls, floor and ceiling. Nothing left of it all - standing watching, watch it fall. Wings slicing through the currents, planes cruising through the skies. Mid-air crash, bad collision - I'll select my own conclusions...

I'll breathe the clean pure breath of life - to sing another song.
