A journey of self-discovery, letting go of the old, making way for the new. Becoming more flexible and open, less resistant. Set in a metaphor of Myth where humans interacted with angels and God on a regular basis. In Psychology we would call this "transformation." Same thing, psychology borrows from Myth all the time. Mythical stories were the therapy of their time, before we had a written history. Oral traditions allowed for the contiuation of appropriate life change types of stories. That's how important events and/or growth experiences were explained and handed to the next generation.

    Story Behind the Song
This song came fairly quickly as this album was being put together. It mapped itself after the other "progressive" songs in this collection and the lyrics fit right in.
This is the first and likely final incarnation of this piece. Like I said, it din't need a lot of work from conception to actualization.
The song is an invitation to make these life transitions, because they are safe and necessary. When myth was the reference point it was easy to follow suit. Today we have so much language steering as away from necessary suffering that it's hard to imagine making these changes without feeling ripped off about it.
Psychology doesn't always help because it encrypts the meaning of these life transitions into jargon only the trained can understand. When Myths were the guiding light, these life changing experiences were cast into story form and were accessible to everyone.
The fact is Myths of old keep recycling in modern times, we just don't see them as such. But stories of transformation, overcoming enormous odds, dealing with fear and with loss, heroism etc. - they are all the subject of today's movies, books and some of our music.I like mythical tales because they are accessible, so I often write from a Mythical perspective.

    Lyrics
The angel on my shoulder has fallen away
He has gone to a place called Nevermore
He comes back sometimes to remind me of who I was
Who I am now is beyond his reach

We leave our fallen angel when we cross that boundary
The one that moves us more closely to the Divine
With this friend in our hearts, we open this time
To see all the glory that is ours

    (chorus)
Let us be there in rest
Be in His house as a guest
Let us be there with all who have fallen
    They are His angels too
    (2)

It's not easy this journey, though traveled a lot
By soldiers who went on before us
Are we ready for this, to move forward in trust
Cause this step can't be taken without Him

    (chorus)
Let us be there in rest
Be in His house as a guest
Let us be there with all who have fallen
    We are His angels too
    (3)
    End
