Story Behind the Song
Santeria - House of the Dying Sun (CD)
"Listening to it is like gazing into a kaleidoscope of our world: the supernatural howl of fogged swamps and open fields, country-buzzing power lines, Bible Belt guilt trips, cotton mouth delusions of redemption, grand mal hallucinations, BBQ pit amplifiers, the bitter/sweet sad longings of persons trapped in small towns, forsaken and forgotten by the rest of the world. It's a concept record of sorts, I suppose, and the concept is "rock de la southern", minus all theConfederate clichés that seem to serve as convenient gimmicks for those who lack imagination. This is a picture of the New South; one that is fairly multi-cultural, somewhat sympathetic, dogged by ghosts of the past, filled with contradiction, and yet, still strangely proud. Don‚t know how else to describe it without sounding pretentious, so I'll quit here. We bankrolled this recording ourselves. It's done." -DEGE LEGG (SANTERIA) PRODUCED BY DOUBLE GRAMMY AWARD WINNER TONY DAIGLE.
Lyrics
WRONG END OF THE DAY
Lay down in the morning
Rise up on the wrong end of the day.
Sleeping in an empty room.
A million walls, they all the same.
Carolina black night moan
Like an earth bound train.
Where the old mad men roam.
Sometimes they go astray.
Down on the wrong end.
Down on the wrong end of the day.
Lay down in the morning.
Rise up on the wrong end of the day.
Cotton and the railroad dawn.
Woman and a Choctaw baby.
Shadows of the endless sun.
Like an earth bound train.
Shadows of the empty moon
Like a mountain about to break
Down on the wrong end.
Say you’re never crawling…down.
Down along the wrong end of the day.
