Story Behind the Song
Many men would like to have the equivalent of the Grateful Dead's "Sugar Magnolia". This song is about mine. To some this may be a little mushy, to others it's romantic, but luckily for me, many years after I wrote it, I found the woman that it was about...today we're married.
Lyrics
I DO BELIEVE
words and music by Sam Cooper
Honeysuckle growing by the side of the road,
Makes me think of you, my sweet darlin’.
Sweet livin’ smell makes the weight of my load,
Just a little easier to bear,
And I do believe I love the smell of roses that complements your hair.
Well I roam around to the honky tonks,
Bringin’ everyone a little music,
Hopin’ everybody will like my songs,
And do their best to lend me an ear,
But I do believe that nobody lends me an ear like you, my dear.
Oh, I do believe in the sun and the moon and the stars.
Oh, I do believe in you am and who I are.
Oh, I do believe in you.
Well the world is mine to give or take,
And with you there to help me choose what’s mine,
Every dream that I’m gonna make,
Will be a little better with you near,
And I do believe I’ll smile a little longer, knowin’ that you’re near,
And I do believe I’ll laugh a little louder, knowin’ that you’re near,
And I do believe my world is getting’ brighter now that you are here.
