This is a song of self reflection and trying to make sense of where one comes from. The title is a play on an old familiar phrase. The actual meaning is positive, rather than negative. It's the recognition of being the offspring of someone or something Very Clever and larger than ourselves.

    Story Behind the Song
Once again I was caught up with an old familiar phrase which now had an "under" meaning. It's about waking up to the Cosmic Truth of who and what we are, and where we come from, which is where we return upon completion of our mission here. I know, it sound hokey New Age, but it's the same old message mystics have been giving us throughout the ages, and the basis upon which most of our Myths have been written. Myth here means "story" rather than falsehood. As a therapist this was the struggle I was witness to everyday with my clients. As a person it's the struggle to understand and accept that occupies my life as well. We are all in this together and we can easily learn from each other.

    Lyrics
Even though this hurts me now
I have to be on my way
I've lost too many chances you see
And my heart still has to pay
I've been here before, that's true
    Been here a thousand times
Never lost so much in Love
As I have to this heart of mine
    Oh baby, I'm hurting now
That's why I want to be on my way

I'm the son of a son of a gun
    A son of a gun am I
I'm the son of a son of a gun
And mister that ain't no lie
I've been around this world before
I know where I'm coming from
I'm the son of a man in love
I'm the son of a son of a gun
Yes, I know, that I've been here before
And that makes me want to cry

That was my life before we met
Before I awoke to the truth
That was the life that I now regret
Oh yeah, the pudding is in the proof
    I meant what I said
    When I left here before
Gotta find my way back to you
    Oh Oh Oh Oh . . .

I've lost a little of this and that
Some heartaches from way far back
I've lost the glimmer in my eyes
And the sound of your disguise
From my heart came signals blaring
From my Soul a chance at daring
It's been my fate to hesitate
But it's my choice to navigate
To find a way to you so sure
To find out that I have the cure

I'm the son of a son of a gun
    A son of a gun am I
I'm the son of a son of a gun
And mister that ain't no lie
I've been around this world before
I know where I'm coming from
I'm the son of a man in love
I'm the son of a son of a gun

Yes I know that I've been here before
And this is why I have to try . . .
