Story Behind the Song
This song was written in my car, while I was delivering pizzas for Domino's. I had just resigned from a position as Music Minister at a local church, and was struggling to figure out the direction in which God was leading me. Plus, I was sinking into a period of major depression and was feeling suicidal (thus the metaphor "standing on the edge"). It's a chronicle of God bringing me from a place of despair to a renewed sense of hope.
Lyrics
I NEED YOUR LOVE
(verse 1)
I'm standing on the edge of what used to be,
Looking back at all I've left behind.
The road I've traveled down has been full of pain,
And yet it's hard to let go,
So very hard to let go.
(verse 2)
I'm standing on the edge of tomorrow,
Looking out at all that lies ahead.
The road I'm traveling now seems so dark and cold;
I need your light shining ahead.
Lord, let me see your light ahead!
(chorus 1)
Oh God, I need your love, I need your love!
Lord, I need you more than ever before!
And God, I need your touch upon me now!
Lord, be near me, for I need you so much more
Than ever before!
(bridge)
It's hard to see the future when my eyes are on the past.
Help me fix my eyes on Jesus, and bring me peace at last!
(verse 3)
I'm standing on the edge of eternity,
Looking up at all you have in store.
Looking through your eyes, there is hope in sight.
I know you're with me forevermore.
Lord, you'll be with me forevermore!
(chorus 2)
Oh God, I need your love, I need your love!
Lord, I need you more than ever before!
And God, I feel your touch upon me now!
Lord, you're near me, and your love means so much more!
Yes God, I feel your touch upon me now!
Lord, you're near me, and your love means so much more!
I know you're near me, and your love means so much more
Than ever before, my Lord!
