    Story Behind the Song
One of a series of songs I wrote between Santa Barbara and San Jose, I recorded this in an apartment in Los Angeles. The guitar and bass tracks were run through Pods. This was one of the first recordings completely laid down through a Soundblaster Audigy.

    Lyrics
    The Movie Plays On
    © 2002 by Stephen Teter

    Ricky Ricardo was the one
Who laid his hands upon the drum
And Little Lucy did her best to make a mess
    And drive him crazy
And Ethel never seemed to know
When Lucy's mind was gonna blow
Though she loved him, she said
"That old Fred, he's so lazy"

    But that's just an echo
    Of yesterdays past
    An unreal world
    With a make-believe cast
    The hero is dead
    And the heroine's gone
    But we're still around
    And the movie plays on

Maxwell Smart, he had his say
When the Chief got in his way
He would bungle and stumble and somehow
    Manage to save the day
    And 99, she was divine
    Was her love not sublime
Though he'd kiss some sweet miss, he'd resist and
    She never lost her mind

    But that's just an echo
    Of yesterdays past
    An unreal world
    With a make-believe cast
    The hero is dead
    And the heroine's gone
    But we're still around
    And the movie plays on

And today it seems such a delecate dream
Tell me, what does it mean
To the man on the street as he dreams
    As he bleeds
    Away

The Donna Stone you came to know
She was the one who ran the show
And dear Mary and Jeff she'd correct
To keep them both in tow

    But that's just an echo
    Of yesterdays past
    An unreal world
    With a make-believe cast
    The hero is dead
    And the heroine's gone
    But we're still around
    And the movie plays on
