Story Behind the Song
Composed in the studio during a writing session with Taylor Sappe and Jeannie Zeppi (now Jeannie Murphy), for the purpose of developing material for Jeannie Z to record.
Lyrics
Driving through the city, I move on down the fast lane.
Don't know where I'm going, but I think I'll go insane.
Night life stresses me. Deals on the left of me,
Street gangs on the right, looking for a fight.
Sirens are screaming in all directions.
Night time is the city's new resurection.
Neon lights are flashing, windows are smashing,
Prowlers in the alley about to prey on Sally.
In the city.
In the city.
Night life.
Night life in the city.
When you're in the city night life's a pity.
People living in a box and the stores are bound with heavy locks.
Don't do the crime, cause you're gonna do some time.
Right behind your back the kids are dealing crack and smack
In the city.
In the city.
Night life.
Night life in the city.
Drunks and punks and junkies clutter up the doorways
With ads for sex and strippers and prowling jack the rippers.
Trash out on the sidewalks, grafitti on the walls,
I gotta get out of the city, cause life just ain't a ball.
In the city.
In the city.
Night life.
Night life in the city.
