Story Behind the Song
The doppler effect is best understood when you think of an ambulence driving towards you
the siren sounds high-pitched as it approaches because the sound waves are being compressed by the vehicle, but when it passes, the waves decompress in the wake, so the siren sounds lower pitched. I've lived right by a big highway in VA all my life, so it's natural for me to equate the sound of passing cars with the sound of passing time.
Lyrics
The Bracelet, handcuffed to my past
handcuffed to my past
The anchor, the wind and road
I'd drive, like time, so fast
thought I felt a gust of wind
felt a gust of wind
Chorus: I view this wreckage from afar
and there's so much to be done
in this land of abandoned barns
we can't put it off for long
Where we lay, my head between your legs
head between your legs
Palms wrinkled, full of hair
gasps waves pressed by air
I heard your voice drop low
I heard your pitch drop low
Repeat chorus
