This is an original song I wrote in my car while driving into San Francisco in June of 1999. The song is written from the point of view of someone at the same time both afraid and in awe of international travel. There's also some ignorance of foreign cultures involved in the subject's point of view, hence the reference to the shores of Paraguay, a land-locked country.
Credits: Victor Andersen: Vocals, all instruments

    Story Behind the Song
This is a demo recorded in one take on 10/31/02 and is to be considered a preliminary version of the song.

    Lyrics
    I've never been to Peru
And I'm not sure I ever will
Cause if I went to Peru
I think I'd be there still

    I've never been to Japan
    And I don't think that I'll go
I would feel lost in Japan
    Cause there's so much I don't know

Places to go, people to see
Oh no, that's not for me
I'll just stay home, watch some TV
Cause it feels good to be alone
In a country of my own

    I've never visited Guam
I'd rather just stay right here
Though all my friends say that Guam
Is quite nice this time of year

    I've never traveled to Spain
And I doubt that I can
Cause if I journeyed to Spain
I'd come back a different man

Places to go, people to see
Oh no, that's not for me
I'll just stay home, watch some TV
Cause it feels good to be alone
In a country of my own

All this myriad of destinations seems so far away
The universe is way too big and it gets bigger every day
The seashells that you find upon the rocky shores of Paraguay
Are probably no different than the ones I find here in the bay

And if the future finds commuters taking shuttle trips to Mars
You can find me wallowing inside my crappy local bars
The atmosphere is comforting and they know me as a regular
So whils you're out climbing the Alps I'll sit here playing my guitar

Places to go, people to see
Oh no, that's not for me
I'll just stay home, watch some TV
Cause it feels good to be alone
In a country of my own

It feels good to be alone
In a country of my own
