Story Behind the Song
Done in one take at a small recording studio in Orlando, Florida.
Lyrics
The Vision: Paradise Lost
I've been waiting for such a long time
To tell you all what once might have been mine.
Once in my lifetime it fell into line.
There was no reason or rhyme,
But it was there.
All that Light had me scared.
I was working on a rich man's land
Building ground out of mush.
There before me lay a small wooded hill
Buried deep within the brush.
Then with a rush I felt it come.
Sparks hit my brain and left me numb.
I must have stood there for quite a long while.
I didn't know if I should shiver or should smile.
I felt awed and at the same time I felt riled
Because my mind refused to file
The things it felt.
My grip on myself began to melt.
Because I've been taught since I was a little child,
I must believe the things I'm shown.
And I must stay on the path that they have made
For any deviation might make known
I think alone and am insane.
So as I stood confusion reigned.
But deep within me you know I knew the truth,
That through that light there lay eternal youth.
Forever happy and always on the loose,
But it was no use, my training won
And I lost my place in the Sun.
As I stood there, I saw it fade away,
And for my indecision, God knows I have paid.
Now all I hope is that it comes again someday
And this time it don't fade until I'm through,
Taking me to a life that's new.
