Story Behind the Song
Poem-turned-anthem about the transition to adulthood/search for life meaning. This song came about in an interesting way. The lyrics were written in 1993. 3 years later, they were added to an experimental groove, and seemed to fit the mood perfectly.
Lyrics
Out in front of a small cafe,
a girl with a smoke leans back so cool.
Down the avenue one block away,
new kid in town was just had for a fool..sing..
Ain't life grand?
Ain't life fun?
Lonely. For everyone.
Street corner, street life..
here's the good and the bad..
We all want the sweet life.
We all wished we had it.
So sister come on, I'll make you a deal..
don't you know that it's dangerous, out here in the real?
Ain't life grand?
Ain't life fun?
Lonely.For everyone.
Out in front of a small cafe
the girl wipes the ashes away..
and she draws up, slow and firm to her feet.
Hears the avenue cry, as she moves down the street..
Ain't life grand?
Ain't life fun?
Lonely. For everyone.
And when it's strange..
and when it's too long..
you say, not I, life is a song.
Like a song.
