The title track "American Family" is about how so many victims of child abuse interpret the American family. There's truth, satire and a hard edge that winds its way through both the lyrics and the music.

    Story Behind the Song
I was motivated to write this song as a
result of the very real and growing problem
of child abuse in our society. Each verse
paints a different picture but the chorus
remains the same (it's just the "American
    Family").

    Lyrics
    Haven't seen my mom
    in two or three years
    dad is a drunk
    sister a whore
    I'm just a punk
    need I say more
    nothing to lose
    and nothing to gain
    living in a world
    of hate and pain

    Chorus

    Don't, don't, don't cry for me,
    It's just the american family
    Don't, don't, don't cry for me,
    It's just an american travesty
    Don't, don't, don't cry for me,
    It's just an american casualty,
Just and american tragedy, just the american family

    The days are hard
    the nights are long
    how do I make it
    through another day
    how do I live
    life this way
I just want it to stop
    before I go insane
    I just want a life
    without all the pain

    Repeat chorus

    Daddy's special present
    when Susie turned twelve
it's got to be a secret
    that she can never tell
    now her life
    is a living hell
    daddy's little girl
    a perverse little pleasure
    your cynical sickness
    you steal her only treasure

    Repeat chorus
