A ballad from the satiric musical STAR WARES: THE NEXT GENERATION by Linda Eisenstein & James A. Levin. The Graffiti Bandit, once a notorious art activist, has been co-opted by the clever FICS -- the Folks In Charge. His protest art now hanging on the walls of the mega-rich, the ozone layer punctured by overuse of Graffiti Bandit-brand spray paints, the Bandit despairs on Earth. Meanwhile on Mars, his former comrade Donna has decided to join the FICS' galaxy-polluting corporation instead of fighting them. |

Lyrics
Nothing I did
had any point at all.
What was the use?
A splash of words on a wall
just titillate the disillusioned.
No art, no contact, no real fusion --
Graffiti only alienates
and now gets sold at market rates.
Art cannot prevail
preaching to itself 'til it's for sale.
Is there anything anyone can do
to change the world?
It's much easier to float with the tide,
don't make waves, just go along for the ride.
Is there anything anyone can choose
to make things right?
Though we try to do the things we should,
all the effort's really not much good.
You can stop one chimney, recycle one can,
it's as useless as the interest on a dime.
It's like shoveling in a blizzard that never ends
or moving the Sahara one spoon at a time.
Is there anything anyone can do
to change the world?
Anything at all?
I guess we're just too small.
